Iberia Medical Center uses latest CT imaging technologies to detect heart disease

Cardiac CT Exams Completed in Seconds Offer Greater Diagnostic Accuracy
With Clear Visualization of Soft Plaque in the Coronary Arteries

Iberia Medical Center has expanded its clinical capabilities using the world's most advanced multislice computed tomography (CT) scanner and visualization software to diagnose and treat heart disease through fast, comfortable and highly-reliable cardiac exams. With the recent acquisition of the Aquilion™ patients now have access to sophisticated cardiac imaging technologies that accurately examine the condition of the coronary arteries through noninvasive CT scans.
The Aquilion 64 CFX delivers high-speed, high-resolution imaging, which allows physicians to capture precise images of any area of the body, including the rapidly moving heart and lungs, which frequently appear blurry when scanned with a traditional CT scanner. With this fast scanning capability, the entire heart can be imaged within a five- to ten-second breath-hold to capture important diagnostic information. Physicians can clearly visualize the heart, its vessel walls and surrounding structures to detect the early onset of coronary heart disease and reduce the need for high-risk surgical procedures.
The SUREPlaque cardiac visualization software is designed specifically to enhance the clinical performance of the Aquilion 64 CFX scanners with an even greater sensitivity to image the coronary vessel walls and detect the presence of soft plaque, a leading risk factor for heart disease and heart attack. The advanced SUREPlaque software identifies and quantifies soft plaque found in the coronary arteries and surrounding vessels. The system then provides physicians with a complete cardiac and peripheral vessel analysis report that uses a color-coding system based on tissue density.
"The Aquilion 64 CFX CT scanner and SUREPlaque software provide our patients with a faster and more comfortable noninvasive imaging procedure that allows physicians to visualize heart disease at the earliest possible stages," said Iberia Medical Center. "With the outstanding image quality, speed and advanced applications, this system is making it more practical than ever to use multislice CT imaging to perform a wider variety of cardiology exams. We can capture motion-free images of the heart and coronary arteries to view soft plaque and measure coronary blockage which will enable cardiologists to improve clinical accuracy and provide better patient care on a routine basis."
